XP Really Needs To Go Away

August 24th, 2010

After removing the umpteenth spyware infection from various customers’ XP machines dating back to around 2004 Windows XP, in my opinion, should heed the advice that the character Austin Powers screamed after he jumped out the window of his apartment building:

“WHY WON’T YOU DIE?!”

Customers, Spyware, and XP… Oh my!

August 24th, 2010

I’m running a spyware scan on a customer’s computer and may need to wipe his system due to the infection it has – since I’ve needed to completely reinstall his OS, as well as backup/restore his data twice in the last 3 years (he’s using XP), I will strongly suggest to him that he consider replacing his computer.

At this point, I’m more concerned with getting him to dump XP than whether he chooses Windows 7 or Snow Leopard.

My review – Rockband 2 Universal Overdrive Pedal

My Review of the Rockband 2 Universal Overdrive Pedal

RB 2 Pedal device view RB 2 Pedal package view

I ordered the pedal through www.bestbuy.com, since both my local Best Buy stores and www.newegg.com did not have any in stock – since I am a Premier Silver member with Best Buy’s reward zone program, I opted for the free UPS Ground shipping. All told, from the time I ordered it through the website until it arrived at my door, I received the pedal in 8 days (which included a weekend).

The pedal, as evidenced from the above picture, is very sturdily constructed – I tested it while playing Beatles: Rock Band (I should point out that, according to the packaging, this pedal is only compatible with licensed Rock Band 2 Wireless Guitars and Basses).

As I mentioned, I tested the pedal while Playing Beatles: Rock Band – the settings that I used were as follows:

Nintendo Wii – current firmware.
Guitar, not Bass
Right-Handed mode
Easy Setting
No-Fail Mode: On
Used the limited edition Rickenbacker guitar
Played “Day Tripper”, “Drive My Car”, “I Want to Hold Your Hand”

Despite what some of the reviewers on the Best Buy website were saying regarding the overdrive button being difficult to activate, I had absolutely no issues whatsoever in being able to activate it (trigger Beatlemania) when needed. As far as my game experience while using the overdrive pedal, I can definitely say that both my song scores and accuracy noticeably increased. Before I started using the pedal I would score, on average, between 4 and 4.25 stars and achieve 91% to 96% note accuracy on any song that I played – on the above mentioned test songs that I used the pedal with I achieved 5 stars each time and my note accuracy was between 98% and 99%.

In my opinion, I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a good quality overdrive pedal.

Wikipedia’s article on Apple

August 16th, 2010

I’m amused that the Apple I, in 1976, was market-priced at $666.66 (2010 dollars, adjusted for inflation) according to Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Computer

It’s located in the “1976–1980:  Early Years” section….

Comfortable shorts

4out of 5

Waist: Feels true to size

Length: Feels true to length

Pros: Nice Color, Comfortable, Washes Well, Breathable

Best Uses: Casual Wear

Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser

These shorts are very comfortable for wearing during warm weather, they are also quite easy to clean if you get them dirty. The included belt can easily be removed and replaced with a casual belt if desired. The one caveat I will mention about these shorts is that, if you fill the front pockets with too many items, the bottoms of the front pockets will display prominently from beneath the shorts when you sit down which, depending on your situation, can potentially cause embarrassment. After having this happen to me, I quickly learned not to put more than a handful of items in the front pockets.

Aside from the front pocket “issue”, I am glad that I purchased a pair of these shorts and will definitely keep wearing them if the weather calls for it.
