My iMac crashed twice in 5 minutes

During the last 5 minutes, my 24″ iMac crashed on me twice – both times when I was turning it on. When it successfully started up the 3rd time, I sent a crash report to Apple – hopefully, they will use it to make sure this sort of thing doesn’t happen in the future. I’ve also noticed that, as I am currently copying 8 different file folders (each in separate locations and containing around 20 GB of data between them) from an external NTFS drive onto an external Journaled HFS+ drive, my 24″ iMac (3.06 GHz Core 2 w/ 4GB RAM) is now performing quite sluggishly.
It seems that even iMac’s have their performance limitations.
